📋 Summary: GoldPal is a completely offline gold tracking tool. All your gold holding data is stored locally on your device or your personal iCloud account. We do not collect, upload, or sell any of your personal data.

Overview & Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to GoldPal (hereinafter "the App" or "we") on the Apple App Store for iOS/iPadOS. This policy explains how we handle information generated when you use the App.

The App is developed by an individual developer and provides holding records and profit tracking services for gold investment enthusiasts worldwide.

Core design principle: Your data belongs to you. We have no servers to store your gold asset data, and there is no account system requiring registration or login.

Information We Collect

Depending on the features you use, the following information may be involved:

Information We Do NOT Collect

Name, phone number, email, ID number, bank account info, device identifiers (IDFA/IDFV), crash logs (we don't use any crash analytics SDK), or advertising tracking data.

Device Permissions

The App may request the following system permissions. All permissions are optional, and you can still use core features if declined:

📷 Camera & Photo Access

Used for "Image OCR Import" feature to automatically recognize weight, price, and other information from purchase receipts; or to store purchase receipt photos. Images are processed locally on your device only and will not be uploaded to any server. OCR recognition is performed on-device by Apple Vision framework.

📍 Location Services

Used for "Purchase Location" feature to mark the store location when adding gold records. Location data is stored only in your local device ledger records and will not be sent to us or any third party.

☁️ iCloud Sync

When you enable iCloud sync in settings, ledger data will be backed up and synced across devices through your personal Apple ID iCloud account. This data is managed by Apple's CloudKit framework, and we cannot access your iCloud data.

🔔 Push Notifications (if any)

The current version of the App does not use push notifications.

Gold Price Data & Third-Party Services

The App fetches real-time gold price data over the network to support holding valuation and profit calculation features.

  • Gold price data is obtained through public market data APIs and used only for display and calculation purposes. It is not linked to or uploaded with your holding information.
  • Data requests do not contain any personally identifiable information.
  • If network requests fail, the App will display the most recent cached gold price data, without affecting core ledger functions.
The App has NO integration with any third-party advertising SDKs, analytics platforms (such as Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.), or social media trackers.

Pro Subscription & Apple Pay

GoldPal Pro subscriptions are completed through Apple App Store In-App Purchases (StoreKit 2). The entire payment process is managed by Apple:

  • We do NOT collect your credit card number, Apple Pay information, or any payment credentials.
  • Subscription status verification is completed locally through Apple StoreKit, with no need to send your purchase records to our servers (we don't have servers).
  • To manage subscriptions (cancel, upgrade), go to System Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
  • For refund requests, please use Apple's official channel: reportaproblem.apple.com.

Data Sharing & Disclosure

We will NOT sell, rent, or share your data with any third party for commercial purposes.

In the following legal circumstances, we may be required to disclose information (but since we don't hold your data, this practically cannot occur):

  • Compliance with applicable laws and regulations or court orders
  • Protection of users' or public's legitimate rights and interests

Ledger screenshots or data files exported through the "Share" feature are shared at your discretion and are not our concern.

Data Security

Since all data is stored locally on your device or your iCloud account, data security depends on your device security settings:

  • Recommended: Enable device passcode/Face ID/Touch ID protection
  • Recommended: Enable iCloud end-to-end encryption (Advanced Data Protection)
  • Please regularly back up your device (iTunes or iCloud backup) to prevent data loss
  • If you lose your device or uninstall the App, data without iCloud sync enabled cannot be recovered

Children's Privacy

The App is intended for users 17 years and older (App Store rating: Finance category). We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. If you find that your minor child is using the App and has generated any data, please contact us and we will assist in deleting the relevant data.

Your Rights & Data Control

Since data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control over your data:

Delete Data

Deleting a ledger or record entry within the App will remove the data from your device. If iCloud sync is enabled, the deletion will also sync to your iCloud.

Export Data

Through "Ledger → Export" feature, data can be exported in CSV/Excel format for your preservation or migration.

Permanently Delete All Data

Uninstalling the App will delete all local data. If iCloud sync is enabled, you also need to clear the corresponding CloudKit data in iCloud settings, or uninstall the App after disabling iCloud sync.

Revoke Permissions

You can revoke camera, photo, or location permissions at any time in "Settings → Privacy & Security".

Cross-Border Data Transfers

The gold price data APIs used by the App may be provided by service providers located in mainland China or other regions. Such requests do not contain personally identifiable information and are only for public gold price queries.

If you use iCloud sync, the cross-border data transfer rules for your data follow Apple's Privacy Policy. See Apple Privacy Policy.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updated policies will be published on this page, and links will be updated in "Settings → About" within the App.

If changes significantly affect your rights, we will provide notice through App Store update notes. Continuing to use the App constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
